Catarina
Moreira
She started
her dance studies at 9 years old, in the Dance School of Orfeão de
Leiria with the teacher Ana Manzoni. In 1994 she attends a dance course in
London, in Sussex Summer School and joins the Escola Superior de Dança of
Lisbon, where she finishes her bachelor degree in the performance area.
Here,
she not only meets teachers as Armando Jorge, Carlos Caldas, Cristina
Graça,
Graça Barroso, José Luís Vieira, Margarida Bettencourt, Ofélia Cardoso,
Patrick
Hurde, Vasco Wallenkamp, but she also has the opportunity to work with
several choreographers, such as, Benvindo da Fonseca, Gaghik Ismailian,
Jean-Paul Bouchière, Luís Damas, Rui Pinto, Tindaro Silvano. She is also
part of
inumerous choreographies from colleagues and makes her first creation
experiments in the discipline of Choreography Studies, «La Fúria de la
Passion»
(1995), «Embróglio» (co-production with the students of the 2nd degree).
She
works as well with Ofélia Cardoso, 1996) and choreographs (X+a)+bc=z*
(1997),
beyond «Hajakalma» (1998), a choreography developed by Catarina and Toni
Tavares, presented in Leiria.
In 1997, she
was a ballerina in the project «Som do Leque» from Vasco
Wellenkamp, presented in Macao, in the Arts Festival of Macao. During the
visit,
she is invited to choreograph for the students of the Macao Conservatory
«Força!».
Furthermore,
she danced in many school projects, and continued to participate
as interpreter in several projects of independent creators, namely: «Cenas
de
um Quotidiano», from Rita Judas (Young Creators Contest 97), «Vertigens de
um Desejo», from Patrícia Henriques and «I Am Smelling Like a Rose That
Somebody Gave Me At My Birthday Dead Bed», from Susana Lima (Biennial of
Young Creators 97), «Jardins Ocultos», from Margarida Silva and Rita
Reis
(Festive celebration of Loures), «S.S.Sem», from Dora Fonseca (Young
Coreographers of Almada).
In 1997 she
gets a scholar fund in the Company Companhia Paulo Ribeiro. Later,
she joined the casting of the Portuguese Company of Contemporary Ballet of
Lisbon, under Direction of Vasco Wellenkamp.
She was an
invited choreographer of the Dance Company of Aveiro during the
season 2002/2003 to which she created «Tomara Que Não Chova Hoje».
She teaches in
the Dance School of the National Conservatory and in the Dance
School of Orfeão de Leiria.
